The Author of the Rigger’s Reference Handbook, Mike Riggs, has worked in the crane and rigging industry for over 30 years.  Mike has written this handbook from his own experiences in the field, classroom instruction and manufacturing years, as well as gathering input, suggestions, and expertise from people who are involved in the crane and rigging industry to provide the end user with a comprehensive riggers handbook.  Mike has a unique perspective to base this handbook from in that he has "walked and breathed" from one end to the other in the rigging profession.  He began his career as an Ironworker/rigger in 1977.  After 11 years in the field, Mike spent the next 9 years in the development and instruction of safe Crane and Rigging training programs.  In 1997, Mike went to work for I & I Sling Inc/Slingmax.  He was the Director of Training and a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Slingmax® Rigging Solutions and has also managed rigging shops in Massachusetts and Tennessee for I & I Sling, Inc. which fabricates and provides overhead and below the hook rigging gear.   Mike has designed, developed and instructed crane and rigging programs for DOE, Slingmax® Rigging Solutions and the private industry.  He is an affiliate member of ASME and a past President of the Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals (ACRP).
